Finding Cheap Air Fare Deals
Finding cheap air fare can sometimes feel like spinning the
roulette wheel, every once in a while your number comes up and you get a
great deal. Of course no matter how good a deal you got there's always that
one guy who ends up sitting next to you on the plane who saved even more
than your did. The best way to look at this scenario is that at least you
saved more money then everyone else on the plane.
Finding deals on air fare can be elusive which is one reason most people
turn to travel agents, who are the true professionals in this area of saving
money. But is this truly the way to find the best deal on air fare. While
travel agents can indeed find good travel deals you have to remember that
there is a fee for them to do this. That's how they make a living, so that
cheap air fare your travel agent found costs a little more by the time you
pay for it.
With the wealth of resources at traveler's fingertips today, namely the
internet, sometimes you can find those same deals without paying that extra
fee. The problem for many people is finding these deals in the first place.
There are some general guidelines to follow that will increase you chance of
finding that elusive air travel discount.
One of the best ways to find cheap air fare is to plan your travel around
the off peak travel periods. This makes sense because when everyone is
trying to travel at the same time the airlines can charge whatever they
wish. This is normally during the summer and holiday travel seasons. During
the off season the airlines want warm bodies in their seat, because empty
planes do not make any money.
One way to do this is look at pricing trends within the industry. If you
look at the history of ticket prices you can get a good indication of when
prices are low and when they are high. This is the same type of information
that travel agents get, which is why they know when the best time to travel
at a discount is. This type of insider information makes planning cheap
vacation very easy because you know the best time of the year to travel.
There are several other things you can do to get cheap air fare deals. At
the least try to reserve and purchase your ticket at least 14 to 21 days
before your travel date. Once you get to about 14 days before takeoff the
price will start to rise dramatically because the flight will begin to fill
up, particularly with business travelers. With this in mind it is also not a
good idea to book a flight more than 4 months in advance because a
reservation premium is normally applied to the seat this early in the
reservation process.
By using these methods you can usually find pretty good cheap air fare
discounts. You might not always save as much money as you would like but
with the fluctuating price of travel any savings is a good thing.
